New Provo Rec Center Annual Fees Raised

Written By: Alisha Boyer

The Provo Rec Center will be the biggest and best building Provo has ever had
before. Residents who want to use it will be paying more then ever before. All the fees
will be raised compared to the other Rec Centers in Utah County.
The fee per day for adults will be $5 and $4 for youth and seniors. The annual
memberships had the biggest increase. Adult passes will be $285, instead of the $108
residents currently pay. Orem and Lehi residents pay $207 and $236 for annual passes. A
family membership will be $493 compared to the current fee of $195. Youth and senior
annual fees will be $157, is currently $80. Non-residents will pay more then the fees
listed above.
Recreation division director Scott Henderson said there isn’t a Rec Center in the
state that compares to what Provo is building, so it was hard to compare it fee-wise. The
recreation department has taken the time to listen to stakeholders and residents on the
issue. Roger Thomas, director of parks and recreation, said “Of all the recreation centers,
ours is in the top 2 percent.”
The new center is taking shape, and Thomas said it will be completed in five to
six months and will be open in the spring of 2013. The outside is nearly completed; most
of the work is being done on the inside. For more information on fees, discounts, and
rental options visit www.provo.org under parks and recreation.
